Welch-Comer Engineering, out of Spokane Valley, WA, was tasked with finding a viable insulation solution for the Whitworth Water District’s bridge pipeline project in Spokane, WA. The project consisted of two hundred feet of slowly curving radius pipeline to be installed within a twenty-inch steel casing on a bridge. The curvature of the pipe was achieved by welding six feet of straight pipe together.

Because of the weld protrusions and the threat of the pipe catching on corners, the insulation thickness needed to be one inch, rather than two inches, which is standard for this project type. They came to Dragon Jacket with the project because they needed a one-inch-thick solution that would deliver the insulative benefits of two-inch thick insulation. The insulation also needed to be easy to install without falling off or snagging as it curved its way through the casing.

With no prior experience or special training, the Halme Construction site crew installed the Dragon Jacket insulation easily and efficiently. This reduced the number of contractors and workers on-site and overall job costs associated with dedicated installers and training.
