Frequently Asked Questions

Insulation Questions

WHAT IS DRAGON JACKET INSULATION MADE FROM?

Dragon Jacket’s standard insulation products are made from a polyiso closed-cell foam and 100% polyurea encapsulation.

IS DRAGON JACKET INSULATION WATERPROOF?

Yes, Dragon Jacket products are 100% waterproof and chemical resistant.

WHY IS DRAGON JACKET BETTER THAN AN INSULATION BLANKET?

Like a blanket, Dragon Jacket’s products are removable for maintenance and inspection. What makes them superior is their durability, reusability and 20-year lifespan. Dragon Jacket products maintain their R-Value (insulating factor) long after other insulation types have broken down from weather, saturation, and day-to-day abuse.

WHAT IS THE R-VALUE OF DRAGON JACKET PRODUCTS?

The R-Value for all Dragon Insulation products is 12.53 per two inches.

WHAT ARE THE AVAILABLE SIZES AND THICKNESSES OF DRAGON JACKET PRODUCTS?

Standard sizes range from 1” to 36” for standard insulation components including all fittings, valves, tees, 90’s, etc. Custom sizes are available upon request, and our insulation products can be made to any thickness specifications 1” and greater.

DOES DRAGON JACKET REQUIRE A VAPOR BARRIER?

No. The polyurea encapsulation functions as the insulation’s vapor barrier, eliminating the need for any additional cladding.

HOW DOES DRAGON JACKET INSULATION PREVENT MOISTURE BUILD-UP?

Dragon Jacket features a downward-facing drip edge, with joints typically positioned on the bottom of the product (assembly is slightly different for elbows). This allows any collected moisture from the outside or inside to easily escape, and drastically reduces CUI while providing the opportunity for early leak detection.

WHAT ARE DRAGON JACKET’S EXPOSURE LIMITATIONS?

Currently, Dragon Jacket has a temperature rating of -109F to 350F, and we are constantly innovating to solve the very high temperature insulation needs of our clients with custom solutions for -450F – 1200F.

Business Questions:

HOW DO I GET PRICING?

Dragon Jacket has a fixed price list for standard products. For customized applications, contact us with a project scope and we can send a quote within 24 hours. We can quote based on drawings or sketches, pipe dimension and type, whether or not it is heat traced, and operational temperature range. If the project scope justifies a site visit, Dragon Jacket can generate 3D scans for quoting and component creation.

WHAT IS THE TYPICAL LEAD TIME?

24-48 hours for quotes, 4 weeks ARO (at receipt of order) for production.

Installation Questions:

HOW IS DRAGON JACKET INSTALLED?

Dragon Jacket Insulation installs quickly and easily using standard on-site tools and personnel, but we are also happy to manage the installation through one of our subcontractor partners.

HOW IS DRAGON JACKET SECURED?

We recommend installation using 304SS metal bands. Their ball lock mechanism is easily pulled tight with a set of plyers and then trimmed to fit.  Alternative banding, including zip-ties, can also be used, depending on the application.

CAN DRAGON JACKET BE USED WITH OTHER EXISTING INSULATION SYSTEMS?

Yes. Dragon Jacket insulation can be attached to existing insulation systems. A “butt strip” – either tape or a piece of polyurea can be applied over the seam joining the two insulation pieces. The strip is then secured into place with clamps on either side of the seam or joint.
